Native to South America, Palo Santo is a sacred wood that comes from the Palo Santo tree. In sacred places like Peru it’s considered holy as the name translates to holy wood. The smoke is believed to have both therapeutic and medicinal properties and healing powers when burned. It is traditionally burned by Incas, indigenous people of the Andes and can be used as often as you like. Medicine People and Shamans use this practice for healing, energy cleansing, and spiritual purification. Palo Santo is also used for blessings, to raise frequency, evoke protection and inspire creativity. It’s said to bring abundance and love. It is great to use before meditation or last thing at night before or after showering to remove all attached energy that has accumulated throughout each day. Its uplifting scent is perfect for deep grounding and will clear the room and energy field, raise the body’s vibration and assist with connection to Source. 

In preparation to use your Palo Santo it’s best to have a small jar of sand on hand to extinguish the wood safely. To begin, light one end of the Palo Santo stick and allow it to catch fire, burning for about 30 seconds before blowing out the flame. Use hand motions with the stick to encourage the smoke to move all around your auric field so that the smoke heavily saturates the outside of your body. Use the Palo Santo around the room if you like to ensure that all spaces are filled with white smoke and that the air is cleansed. If you choose you can use the mantra “All negative energy leaves, only love and light remain.” Once finished extinguish the stick in the jar of sand or dirt to make sure it’s ready for its next use. One stick should last a few weeks.
