The sacred smoke of sage has been traditionally used by the natives of North and South America and dates back thousands of years to indigenous populations around the world. This culture believes that burning sage prevents any evil influences and it can be used as often as needed. As the white sage has a much stronger thicker smell of smoke which sits heavy on clothing and hands I choose to use it more for the heavier days or for house clearing and the Palo Santo more often for cleansing and purifying the body of negative energy.

For the sacred smoke to purify your space we recommend that you open all windows in the area you’d like to cleanse before beginning. This enables the negative energy to be directed out of your space by guiding the smoke away from your home. To start using the White Sage Smudge Stick it needs to be ignited on one end and slightly blown to get the embers to create smoke and extinguish the flame. Keep your sand jar close underneath for any excess ash that falls during cleanse. Move the smudge stick in a counter clockwise circle around the auric field and the body, don’t forget to include the room and the rest of the house if you’re doing a house clearing. Enter each room and waft the smoke into all corners using the same mantra used for Palo Santo. Once finished extinguish the embers in sand and store in a dry place for next time. Always take care when smudging and only use under adult supervision. A strong awareness is needed to ensure that no embers fall onto the carpet as you move.
